Washington, D.C. — CxEnergy 2025, the conference and expo held annually by the AABC Commissioning Group (ACG), brought nearly 600 participants in the fields of commissioning, energy management, and testing, adjusting & balancing (TAB) to Charlotte, NC, at the end of April. A joint effort of ACG, the Energy Management Association (EMA), and the Associated Air Balance Council (AABC), CxEnergy offered 32 technical sessions from industry experts.
This year’s CxEnergy was especially momentous, as ACG celebrated the 20th anniversary of its founding. A celebratory video during the opening plenary provided an overview of the organization’s history with messages from current and past leadership. Member companies and certified individuals that have been involved since ACG’s start were recognized, and all attendees were given commemorative 20th anniversary lapel pins to wear throughout the conference.
During the technical program, speakers with a range of commissioning experience covered relevant topics such as technology and artificial intelligence, workforce development and training programs, updates on industry standards, case studies, and more. Energy management professionals spoke about energy efficiency, achieving net zero, building decarbonization, and other leading industry topics. The conference program fostered engaging discussions between attendees and speakers, connecting commissioning and energy management professionals with building owners and facility managers.
The CxEnergy 2025 conference in Charlotte, North Carolina was more than I could have hoped for it to be. The technical sessions were abundant and informative while also entertaining. There was a multitude of exhibitor booths to discover and an extremely friendly staff to guide you along the way. The food was delicious, and the connections made to others in the industry were priceless. I have attended CxEnergy conferences for about 5 years and I plan to continue to do so well into the future as the organization grows!

At CxEnergy’s opening plenary session, ACG Executive Director Ray Bert provided an update on the organization’s recent activities, including the ongoing process of updating the ACG Building Systems Commissioning Guideline, which is free to access for building owners and facility managers. Keynote speakers Bobby Labonte, a NASCAR Hall of Famer, and Kristin Labonte, a champion cyclist, shared experiences from throughout their sports and professional careers that highlighted resilience, winning and losing, and getting up after being knocked down.
In addition to a cutting-edge educational program, CxEnergy 2025 offered a sold-out expo hall featuring more than 50 exhibitors showcasing the latest software, technology, devices, and other services for commissioning, energy management, and TAB. The CxEnergy Technology Theater returned this year, providing an exciting opportunity for exhibitors to present their latest products. Headphones allowed Theater attendees to watch short presentations from four exhibitors in the midst of the bustling expo hall.
New this year were CxEnergy Scholarships, offered to students interested in learning more about commissioning and energy management. Ten students were awarded scholarships, which allowed them to attend technical sessions, explore the expo hall, and learn from experienced professionals and industry experts.
As always, the event was nothing but perfect. I enjoyed the technical sessions as well as the networking opportunity. Not to forget, the food was so good!
